Winter Break so far..

So... I got a new tablet! Woohoo!
I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season! I am relieved, I got some time off of work to come home for the holidays and I've been busy drawing away.
So.. This is a big post!
I've been frequent on my tumblr with these, but Blogspot does take a little more effort to upload and talk about each piece, so here it goes!

I've been receiving requests for commissions lately and I am ecstatic!
I have never been payed for artwork until now and it is so wonderful!

A bear adventure!

A quicker bear and landscape sketch when I first opened my new intous!

A commission for my friend Summer, who really loved the bear sketches
and wanted one for her boyfriend!

My first commission!! A friend of a friend commissioned this drawing of him and his girlfriend!

I think this is a record.. I watched a good six seasons of doctor who in about a week..
while still going to work and drawing.. its a good show.

A Game of Thrones commission for my friend Claudie!

I got the Nausicaa manga compilation for christmas,
and I love the colours used in his watercolour sketches and in the movie.
So wonderful had to play around.
It is definitely one of my favourite Ghibli films.

A secret Santa gift for my classmate Erika,
She is so talented I was so worried she wouldn't like it!
It is a character from an anime called : tanken driland

Doodless

Some character doodles, I am really trying to play with
character design and get a little more comfortable.
I'd also like to push and further my style.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed all of this artwork! I shall have more to come I am sure by the end of the break!!

Happy New Years!

Sketchbook Stuff!

So I started Animation at Sheridan yesterday! It is all intros and such this week but I get to go to Life Drawing tomorrow morning and I can't wait!! I will have a longer post about this week at the end of the week!

Anyways I kept saying I'd upload some sketchbook stuff so here is the start of my newest one, enjoy!

Poor lonely monster..

A princess and a thoughtful naked girl

Playing around with simple shapes and studying
 some samurai jack background techniques!

Weird creature and it's rider, not exactly sure what it is hahah

That is one sassy man on the left ;) And some background doodles

This is from our first character design class!
We had a few minutes to sketch an influential character/show/movie etc.
from when we were younger... can you tell what it is ;)

And we had to also draw the person next to us as
a sort of character :) It was supposed to get us
to meet new people but I was next to my friend Alanna!
Thanks guys! I will be back soon with some life drawing and more stuff from my amazing program!

Gazing

Today was Victoria day.
Once again I did not go out to view fireworks. Hearing them from my room always makes me sad, for viewing them is one of my favourite things... and this year it was no one's fault but mine. I was just not feeling good today and the thought of going outside was just not present in my mind.

So I drew instead - at least I can get inspired ;)

Here is a digital layout sketch (approx 2hrs) of sort of a back alleyesque setting. I have no idea what that creature is next to the girl, but it just sort of happened! One minute it was a bag, the next it became a sort of pokemon type being!
I don't know anymore!

Anyways, I am super sleepy!
Goodnight folks!
Hope you enjoyed it!

Inspired

A rough drawing experimenting with different sorts of brushes and textures!!

(Toronto Comic Arts Festival)
It is completely free and is still on tomorrow at the Toronto Reference Library.

So I decided, since I am only volunteering for TCAF on Sunday, to go check out the festival today for fun!
It was amazing, exactly what I expected.
It really got me motivated to keep going and start experimenting more with my art - I am hoping to get a booth there next year!!

A quick homestuck sketch I did for my Brother, so he could get it signed by the creator, asking his date to prom. (Done like 20 minutes before leaving for TCAF where he was getting it signed!!) Weirdly enough I am really happy with this.

Here are some of my TCAF adventures:
!
Swag <3 So much beautiful artwork!

Filled to the roof with wonderful people!!

Another Sarah....

... who also loves narwhals <3

Beautiful artbooks...

"Take a picture of me taking a picture of you"

Aya Kakeda She had lovely work, I bought a tote bag from her :D

My friend Sahar really enjoyed herself!

Fell in love with this print, sad I didn't pick it up.

Some more beautiful work, their company is called yeti press hehehe <3
She is fantastic Gigi D.G., she is also the author of the popular webcomic Cucumber Quest!
She was too shy to be in the photo with her work :(

Hope you can make it to TCAF tomorrow!!
I will be volunteering at Fortuna - it is down the street from the reference library, where the artists are giving workshops!
See you there!

WHY AM I STILL AWAKE?

Eyes Closed

I am not going to lie. I am pretty freaked out about next year...

It is the character design portion of animation that scares me.
When I design characters they are flat - more illustrative. For my portfolio however I tried to do something with more structure, using basic shapes etc.  But it really is not me.. and I'm not quite certain what to do about that.

Frustration!

Sorry I haven't updated in a while! I lost the cord to my tablet at the start of the summer, and have not gotten around to scanning anything I have sketched... Luckily, my blackberry phone cable works with my tablet!! WOOHOO!

Anyways, lots of things to look forward to!

I will be volunteering at TCAF on Sunday, not in the reference library but at Fortuna down the street where they will be doing workshops! I am very excited to be apart of this wonderful event!

~
I will also be at Anime North with some friends, on the Friday and the Sunday of the convention (Wedding to attend on the Saturday) I am hoping one day to be among the artists alley, but I am thinking my style isn't quite "anime" enough for this particular convention!

Hope summer is going well for everyone!

Autumn

Hey Guys!
For our final project in Drawing Systems, we had to create ... well anything.
So I did a book cover.
~
Some of my inspiration came from a book called "Hilda Folk" by Luke Pearson, as well as many other beautifully illustrated novels.

(the amazing quotes on the left are not real.. even though I wish they were.)

Inside flap                        Back cover                                 Front cover                          Inside flap

I really enjoyed doing this project, and I am thinking of making this book real.
Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas for the book!!
Thanks again

Oh Canada

Canada themed project for 2D design!
This piece features many different kinds of trees - the diversity of our environment is similar to the many cultures seen here in Canada! Hope you like it!

Sheridan Animation Portfolio 2013

UPDATE: March 25th 2013 Accepted into Sheridan Animation Program!!
I hope that this portfolio will inspire and help anyone trying to get into Animation at Sheridan College.
It took me three years to get in, so no matter what if this is your dream keep fighting for it!
Best of luck to anyone applying, and I hope you enjoy!

~

As many of you may know this is my third year trying to get into the "Bachelor of Fine Arts : Animation" program at Sheridan College. It is a world renowned program and it has been my dream since I was in grade 2... seriously.

Last year I was very close to getting into the program, but after appealing and such it just didn't happen. Anyways, it is due Monday February 25th.  I am happy with how it turned out this year and I hope you all enjoy it!

The lighting is different in each picture because I took some in the morning (which had lovely natural light) then re-took them just now (for lots were blurry).
