Sheridan Animation Portfolio Score Sheet

This year has been hard. Just as hard as two years of rejection. I have had to see others get rejected from their dreams, and I know exactly how they feel. I haven't really been able to celebrate getting in, because I just want so bad for others to succeed as well. My fingers are crossed for all who haven't heard back yet, and for those on the waiting list or trying to appeal. Good luck to you all, don't let this get in the way of your dreams!

My score sheet came in the mail today. I was so excited for it's arrival, but I am not exactly happy with my score. I really felt my portfolio was stronger than this, but above all my confidence, that feeling of "maybe I am ready" is now gone.

Well here it is :

I hope this helps anyone hoping to apply for the program, you can associate this score sheet with my portfolio, to kind of see how they mark.

Thanks again for everyones good wishes! It really means the world.

Thank you everyone for your support!

I drew these two pictures in commemoration of this glorious day!!! <3

I cried for hours this morning out of pure happiness.
It has finally ended....

...but the adventure is just beginning.

Long Poses - Life Drawing update!

So my motivation has been dwindling when it comes to life drawing.
Lately in class all we have been doing is long poses... as in all semester long we have done three drawings, THREE!!!

On the plus side it has really gotten me to focus on detail and perspective, but it has really eliminated gestures and structure entirely. We don't even do one. It is sad really.
I know I know, there is always extra life.
At this point, I am going to find out about animation NEXT WEEK and the anxiety ever since handing in my portfolio has been rising... YOU WOULD THINK I'D BE RELIEVED THAT IT WAS DONE.
but no.
The wait is the worst part.
Anyways...
Here are the three in class figure studies we have done this semester!

Figure Study 9 hrs
On this one we had to look at the environment that surrounded the figure,
and create a sense of depth using pencil crayon.
Figure Study 6 hrs
Cross hatching study, black and white on gray paper.

Figure Study 6hrs
"big foot" project
This one we played with extreme foreshortening, using colour values to
describe depth on the figure. Warm high contrast colours in front
receding to cooler colours in the background.

The picture does not describe the colours very well,
its hard to capture them on camera. This was a very fun piece to do!
Anyway folks, I hope you enjoyed and wish me luck! 3D updates soon, and hopefully my scoresheet and results for animation!

Oh Canada

Canada themed project for 2D design!
This piece features many different kinds of trees - the diversity of our environment is similar to the many cultures seen here in Canada! Hope you like it!

Self Portraits

So I may or may not have snuck into a presentation only for animation students this week...
John Musker was at Sheridan this Thursday. He is the director and done some animation for many Disney Classics including The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules etc. It was a very cool presentation, I enjoyed it the best that I could squished on the ground between two desks (the ones with the chairs attached). He showed a lot of photos of his classmates at Cal arts (including people like John Lassiter, Henry Selick, Tim Burton,  Brad Bird and (the storyboard teacher at Sheridan) Nancy Beiman. I enjoyed watching his journey, and it helped when he explained the struggle and rejection he experienced trying to get into school and to work for Disney.
I am very glad I could watch the presentation.

Self Portraits

So our BIG painting project over reading week was two acrylic self portraits.
We could choose two of three options :
1. Cultural Identity
2. Roleplay
3. The Story of my Face

---
Super lame. One thing I learned or I suppose really realized was that I don't really have a cultural identity.
I don't have a religion or a stark culture.. I am German, British and Canadian but I don't really celebrate those things.
I think I really need to learn more about my Heritage.

So I chose The Story of my Face, and Roleplay... Roleplay is silly. I don't understand why this was even an option -- it took a very long time trying to think of an idea for that one.

Here they are:
(keep in mind I am not the best with acrylic paint hahaha *spare meeee*)

"The Story of my Face"
For this piece I focused on an expression that would play into my
anxiety issues. I hoped to achieve some sadness in the eyes.
Roleplay
Well... we watched Lord of the rings extended right as the break started,
I started reading them again and my work started showing the Hobbit.

Inevitable.
I am really not happy with the hand. It is really rushed (2am at this point)
and I had already restarted the whole thing after 8 hours of painting...

Hope you guys enjoyed the paintings,
I apologize for not updating more often, I have been pretty brain dead waiting for portfolio results.
I will post some Life Drawing and some sketchbook stuff soon!
