2D design assignment #1 : Shape, Line & Texture
For this assignment, our choice of medium was anything from marker, to gouache, to ink to pencil!
As long as it was done in black and white. The basis was experimentation with Line, Shape as well as texture, then to use those to create flow in a composition.

Shape, Line and Texture Compositon |
The thing that I do not like about Art Fundamentals, is I feel many of the teachers are disorganized in some manner.
Due to the amount of students in this program, teacher forget what they explain to one class, and often repeat or leave out important information.
John did not like my composition, because he felt like it just flowed right off the page.
That was my intention.. to create flow upward, or whichever way you decide to look at the piece. I wanted to do something different from the examples, which drew the flow into the centre of the page. By combining shape, line and texture I have created flow, in a growing motion. The repetition and placement of shape texture and line was intentional, thus following the criteria of the assignment in my opinion an effective manner.
Anyways my final mark was 22.5 / 25.0 -- not the mark I really want, but much better than the mark he originally gave me. Though grades aren't as important for building a successful portfolio, they still go on your record, and I have seen what ignoring your classes and getting bad grades can do to your chances for animation or any other program. Many such as my best friend Aya, receive conditional acceptances - you only get in if you pass Art Fundamentals with a certain mark.
Anyways I am off, I will hopefully post some more life drawing in the next couple of days..
for now I leave you with a preview of my next 2D assignment.
Until next time!
